Brooklyn: learn more about the region!

At the end of the nineteenth century the region where today is the neighborhood was crossed by a line of Carris de Ferro Sao Paulo Santo Amaro, which connected the center of Saint Paul to the then municipality of Santo Amaro, their wagons were pulled by the time donkeys. Until then the "neighborhood" which was named the 5th shift, had few houses, being a regular stop of the line. The company that belonged to Mr. Alberto Kuhlmann went bankrupt in 1900 and merged into the Sao Paulo Tramway, Lightand Power Company. Thirteen years later the Canadian company introduced electric streetcars on the line. Due to this change was a real estate interests in the region, attracting public and private investments, becoming industrial and residential.

The Brooklin Paulista came to be known as the neighborhood in1922, with the addition of natural and almost simultaneous threelarge subdivisions, which eventually consolidate its territory. One, designed by Julius Klaunig and Alvaro Rodriguez, covered areaof 174 acres, the former Great House Farm, that was locatedbetween Avenida Santo Amaro and the Marginal Pinheiros, limited to one side with Morumbi Avenue and another, with the Waters Espraiada. Another, called the Garden of Acacias,released by Afonso de Oliveira Santos, was located between Avenida Morumbi and Avenida Roque Petroni Junior. And third, launched by the corporation Factory Votorantim, confronted with the Santo Amaro avenues, Washington Luis, Avenida Vicente Rao and Water Espraiada [1], forming the current Old Brooklyn.
